Bears are apparently being slaughtered and killed for their parts in California. We need to take action to ensure this horrific practice is immediately stopped.

Target: Charlton H. Bonham, Director of California Department of Fish and Wildlife

Goal: Charge anyone who is thought to be viciously killing bears and selling their parts on the black market.

Bears are apparently being slaughtered and killed for their parts in California. We need to take action to ensure this horrific practice is immediately stopped.

Most recently, a young black bear was thought to be purposely run over by a culprit who is accused of cutting off the animal’s paws and taking out its gallbladder.

Officials believe that this was done so that the parts could be sold on the black market as food and for medicinal purposes.

While one would think that such an incident happens infrequently in the United States, the illegal wildlife trade in America is flourishing.

Unfortunately, these crimes oftentimes go unnoticed since they are thought to more commonly take place overseas. It is therefore important that law enforcement officials thoroughly investigate anyone who is suspected to be involved with this horrific practice.

Demand that wildlife officials take whatever actions necessary to ensure black bears are safe. If unethical people continue to kill these beautiful creatures, the California black bear population may soon be depleted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Bonham,

It is thought that many black bears in California are being killed for their parts. Anyone suspected of committing these crimes needs to be investigated and arrested in order to ensure that these bears are able to live safely in their environment.

During the most recent incident, a young bear was found on the side of the road and was thought to have been run over so that an assailant could retrieve the bears’ paws and gallbladder.

Authorities surmise that this was done so the paws could be sold as food items, and the gallbladder sold for medicinal purposes. In fact, some business owners in Chinatown are suspected of selling bear bile that was illegally obtained from bears in California.

The trade has also been known to take place in the United States. When the animal rights charity Wild Aid sent activists into medicine shops in San Francisco’s Chinatown they were readily offered bear bile in velvet-lined boxes, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in 2005.

“It’s a crime of opportunity,” Hughan said, adding that he believed the perpetrators will have been driven by “money and greed”.

Hughan also said that while it’s not unusual for animals to be killed on roadways, bear poaching was, sadly, “fairly common”, with dozens killed last year alone.

The crime is being investigated by the department of fish and wildlife’s law enforcement division.

I therefore encourage you to question, investigate and formally charge anyone who is thought to be involved with these disgusting crimes. If nothing is done, the majestic black bears of California may one day be extinct.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Please share and help to stop the killing.....
