Dog dies after being 'left in hot car for hours while owners shopped in Ikea'

A shocking video has emerged showing the moment a dying dog was pulled from a hot car after being left by its owners while they reportedly shopped in Ikea.
In the unverified footage, posted to viral video site LiveLeak.com, the animal is seen panting heavily as it lies exhausted in the boot of the vehicle.
Fidji, a 14-month-old boxer, was spotted by passersby who decided to break into the car by smashing one of the windows in order to rescue the dog.
It is reported that the poorly pooch had been left in the car for four hours while its owners stopped off at the Swedish furniture and home store.

Distressing: The dog was rescued from the hot car and reportedly being trapped for four hours
The dog allegedly belonged to a French family, on their way to a wedding in Spain. It is thought they stopped at Ikea to search for a gift.
A policeman breaks the window of the car and unlocks the vehicle before someone pours a bottle of water over the dog in an attempt to cool him down.
Tragically, despite being rescued from the vehicle and undergoing a three-hour operation, Fidji died at 8pm the same day from internal bleeding.
The RSPCA have warned UK pet owners of the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars, especially now the country is set for a week-long heatwave.

Rescued: The dog was pulled from the car by passersby but tragically died later that day
Official advice on their website states: "Many people still believe that it's ok to leave a dog in a car on a warm day if the windows are left open or they're parked in the shade, but truth is, it's still a very dangerous situation for the dog.
"A car can become as hot as an over very quickly, even when it doesn't feel that warm. When it's 22 degrees, in a car it can reach and unbearable 47 degrees within the hour."
The RSPCA urges anyone who sees a dog in a car on a warm day to dial 999, particularly if they are displaying any signs of heatstroke or distress.
